  • Laurie Olive Bardin Cunningham, lovingly known as “Baby” and Olive, died at the age of 94 on September 10, 2016, after a four-year battle with cancer.

     Olive is survived by her children – Judy Clingan and Mark Jamieson of Colorado and Deb (McCurren) Novak of Washington, D.C; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews; and her lifelong friend of 91+ years, Miss Catherine “Cat” Barham, of Oakridge Louisiana.

     “Baby” was preceded in death by her parents – Marion and Verna Bardin; her daughter, Peggy Smith; her granddaughter, Michelle Smith; her brother, Wayne Bardin; her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Van Lee Sr.; five husbands; and two nephews.

     Olive was born on November 29, 1921 and raised in Oakridge, Louisiana. She lived a full and exciting life in Boulder, Denver and Colorado Springs, CO; Wichita, KS, Bastrop and Monroe, LA; and Hot Springs Village, AR.

     Her family and friends will always remember Olive’s love of music, swimming, tennis, golf, boating, and above all else – dancing. She was actively involved in Pierian Club, and Abram- Moorehouse Parish DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), as Constitution Week Chair, with particular interest for Veterans and Youth Patriot programs.

     Services to celebrate Olive’s life will be held on Saturday, September 17, at the Cedarvale funeral home in Hot Springs Village, AR, from 3:30-5 PM. A dinner will follow. A second service will be held in Oak Ridge, LA on October 15th, at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church and Cemetery.

    I so enjoyed getting to know Laurie and taking care of her. She was a hoot ! I'll never forget her . Take care Deb. You're an awesome lady and a wonderful daughter!
